Issa Rae Follows Up "Rooting For Everybody Black" with "Every N**** Is a Star" for CFDA Awards

Writer and star of HBO's Insecure, Issa Rae, wears her blackness on her sleeves and rightfully so. She recently shined bright in her bedazzling midnight blue, hybrid jumpsuit/gown for the CFDA awards, where she was the hostess with the dopest monologues (she took a dig at the self-proclaimed Louis Vuitton Don, Kanye West, while his wife, Kim Kardashian West, was in tow).

It wasn't the fact that Issa had a little bit of hang time with her perfectly coifed ponytail that had people talking, it's that one statement piece she wore that had folks clutching their pearls and popular fashion blogs making sure they bleeped out the N-word in their reviews of last night's festivities.

Ms. Rae had on what appeared to be a satin belt with the following quote, "Every N**ger is a Star."

Homegirl was basically confirming that she didn't misspeak when she said she was rooting for everybody black during her appearance on 2017's Emmy Awards Red Carpet. She said what she said!

This is not the first time Issa used the N word as a fashion statement. In season 2 of Insecure, she wore a "Nigga" sweatshirt by a Kenyan-American fashion designer, Recho Omondi , and it was all the wave.

Of course, to some, the word nigga is a used as a term of endearment- just ask the hip-hop community. While the n-word with er ending is little more taboo and "we shall overcome" for a lot of folks.

One thing we realized about Issa, is that she's very intentional in what she says and what does. Perhaps, she's not as awkward as she lets on.
